Exclusive Video: Herbert Hainer on the adidas Group’s Nine Months 2012 results

This morning we released the adidas Group‘s Nine Months 2012 results. In the first nine months of 2012, adidas Group sales increased 8% on a currency-neutral basis driven by double-digit growth in Retail and Other Businesses. Net income grew 22% to 798 million euro. This marks the seventh consecutive quarter in which we grew the bottom line faster than the top line. Our results so far this year prove that Route 2015 is a powerful and robust strategic business plan that enables us to achieve record sales and earnings in 2012 and 2013. I interviewed our CEO Herbert Hainer exclusively for the adidas Group blog and he shared his views on our results, the current economic climate and how he expects the company to perform in 2013. What I think about golf returning to the Olympic Games?

What I think about golf returning to the Olympic Games?

Since it turned out that golf will return to the Olympic Summer Games in 2016 (Rio de Janeiro, Brasil) I have been asked one question hundreds of times: “What do you think about golf being an Olympic sport?” I have to be honest; I wasn’t quite sure about it. I didn’t know whether that was going to be a good thing or whether golf even fits with the Olympics.

And that’s not because I am not a supporter of the Olympics. I love and appreciate the Olympic Games. In fact, I had the honour of taking part in the event myself representing Great Britain in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney playing for the National field hockey team – what an honour and what a great experience!

TaylorMade reveal Golf ‘Outside the Ropes’ during the Open Championship

The week of the Open Championship is always an exciting time for me, especially being a golf enthusiast and a single handicapper myself. I have worked for TaylorMade-adidas Golf for three and a half years now, having moved to PR/Marketing Executive in April last year, so when I was given my first opportunity to manage a TaylorMade event on the Monday during the Open Championship, I couldn’t wait to get started!

It meant that I could really use my creativity and have my say with the whole look and feel of the event, alongside our event agency. The TaylorMade-adidas Golf Marketing team created a unique film documentary with our Tour players and this was to be showcased at a red carpet, film premiere style event.

Insight into the TaylorMade-adidas Golf Pro-Am 2012

This Monday I had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to not only meet a real golf pro but also to learn from him. Actually, I even had to give him advice myself concerning his game and the choice of his clubs. This was an experience which was exciting and weird at the same time. I had a full 18 holes, almost six hours, to really get to know a professional golfer. And it was not any golf pro – it was Martin Kaymer, the number one German golfer, winner of the 2010 PGA Championship, and in 2011 the second youngest golfer ever number one in the world ranking list. Read on to learn more about my day with Martin and how tennis ace Andrea Petkovic came into play.
