“Can you see my goose bumps?” – How it is to visit the London 2012 Olympic Games

“Can you see my goose bumps?” – How it is to visit the London 2012 Olympic Games

There are a few words in my vocabulary I rarely use, usually for one of these two reasons: Either, I don’t like them or I don’t find them appropriate. In this particular case both is true, and yet, I have to use this single word that puts it all into a nutshell: “AWESOME”.

Here, at the Headquarters of adidas Group, we are quite fortunate when it comes to trips to go to sports events thanks to our so-called company sports program. When the last issue came out in February, I believe many of my colleagues took out their personal bucket lists and found one particular item on them: “Watch the Olympic Games live.” After a short application process twenty-four employees got lucky and all of a sudden August 1st was there  – our journey began and would experience five days filled with Olympic events and the idea of true spirituality at the Olympic Games. I was lucky number twenty-five, being sent along with the group to cover the trip for our adidas Group intranet, writing a daily blog about our experiences. Here is how I experienced London 2012 as a spectator.

The Olympic Spirit breezes through the World of Sports

The Olympic Spirit breezes through the World of Sports

One day after the Olympic flame was ignited, that sent the 30th Olympic Games in London underway, the adidas Group invited its employees and their families to the Olympic Day at the World of Sports. For over 4.000 guests, the campus of adidas’ headquarters was transformed into a true Olympic Park. Almost every Olympic discipline was represented, London’s most famous sights were rebuilt and integrated into the beautiful landscape of World of Sports and last but not least, typical British food was served. In the middle of it all were Eva Nusser, adidas Sales representative, and me. As we are both sport enthusiasts, this was a very memorable day for us.

Interview: “The Sachin Tendulkar Experience”

Interview: “The Sachin Tendulkar Experience”

Thunderous applause, elated audiences, cheers and shouts … that’s what the Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar walked into during the employee event at the adidas Group headquarters in Herzogenaurach! Especially our colleagues from India who are into cricket were beside themselves with joy. For everyone else, our colleagues’ excitement alone gave us goose bumps.

During the employee event, 25 employees had the opportunity to enjoy a private bus ride with Sachin. Furthermore, employees were invited to attend a Q&A session in the adidas Brand Center and also had the chance to have their picture taken with him and to test their cricket skills. Two of the lucky employees were Mohd Tabish Husain and Rohit Jain. I spoke to them about one – if not THE best – day of their lives and here is what they said:

Chili con Carne with tennis ace Andrea Petkovic

Chili con Carne with tennis ace Andrea Petkovic

It’s only my fourth day working for the adidas Group and whom do I get to meet? Andrea Petkovic – Germany’s number 1 tennis player here on the World of Sports in Herzogenaurach.

I’ve just started my PR Traineeship at Internal Communications and already had the opportunity to organize a lunch with Andrea Petkovic and five lucky employees, who all participated in a drawing. The lucky winners all answered our question right and knew that Andrea currently possesses the number 10 world ranking. We invited the five to meet Andrea during her lunch break at our employee restaurant Stripes.

adidas escort kids: The next generation of sport enthusiasts

adidas escort kids: The next generation of sport enthusiasts

UPDATE (October 29) – Check out great new images.

Last Saturday, I accompanied 13 adidas employee kids (and their parents) to Munich, Germany, on their mission to escort the players of the FC Bayern onto the pitch. Working in Internal Communication as a Trainee since May 2011, I have already planned some athletes’ events for employees, but the trip with the kids showed me once again, that being close to athletes is a real privilege. In this post, I want to share with you a picture gallery and show you what made our adidas escort kids to beam with joy.
