What a fantastic World Cup! What a great victory for Germany! What a huge success for adidas!
Without a doubt, Sunday’s 2014 FIFA World Cup Final was a defining moment in the history of our brand, maybe only comparable to the “Miracle of Bern” in 1954 when our founder Adi Dassler helped the Germans to win their first World Cup ever by supplying them with the first modern football boots with screw-in-studs. Based on Adi’s invention adidas became the leading sports brand in the world.
Without a doubt, the FIFA World Cup is the world´s biggest sports event. Millions and millions of fans around the world just couldn´t wait for this ultimate happening to start with the kick-off game on June 12. But – once the World Cup is finally there – what is the one single event where all the excitement comes to a climax? Of course; the final! It’s the pinnacle of the tournament, the two best teams in the world battle it out for a place in history. And no matter which teams play, an estimated one billion people worldwide will follow the game on TV, online or at public viewing events.
Safe to say that the final of the World Cup really is a special moment – one that deserves a special product. This is why we created a dedicated version of the brazuca, the Official Match Ball of the 2014 World Cup, for the final: the brazuca Final Rio.

To me, the World Cup is not only a special opportunity to cheer for my nation but also to celebrate a unique look that adidas brought to the world of football and to the modern culture of sport. For the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, we introduced the Battle Pack Collection. It makes me proud when I see this pack in full action. Not long ago, it was a fragile baby thought that needed much attention. As one of the nursing parents I had the pleasure to watch it growing into an impactful collection with the bold presence we’re now all experiencing. Let me share with you how we went about it.
