Putting our passion for sports into action at Berlin Half Marathon 2013

Putting our passion for sports into action at Berlin Half Marathon 2013

Four months ago, I walked into our team meeting on a Monday morning. It was a regular team meeting like we have once a week. We usually plan one athletic activity with our team every month, but this time, we came up with an ambitious goal, the 33rd Vattenfall Berlin Half Marathon 2013.

As one of the world’s largest half-marathons, with record attendance levels reported in the last several years, this was the ideal place for the diverse ambitions of the Public Relations Team to kick-off the running season. Of course everyone agreed immediately. But the next day, I realized how far 21km can be. I love running, but I was not expecting to do a long-distance run so soon. I was pretty sure that, by the time the end of March came, most of my colleagues would skip the race. But guess what, almost everyone in the PR Team Central Europe West signed up.

How 30 hours on a bus help to find inspiration for football

How 30 hours on a bus help to find inspiration for football

Often, when we think about the UEFA European Championships, we think of the likes of Schweinsteiger, Neuer and Xavi and a crowd of people celebrating and cheering for their favorite teams on the streets or in beer gardens (at least we do so here in Germany).

But there are also some people who start to put all their energy into the tournament well before it even starts: at adidas these are, for example, the team members of the Business Unit (BU) Football. This team makes sure that adidas (as the Official Partner, Supplier and Licensee of the UEFA EURO 2012™) offers the most innovative products for each and every tournament. Among other things, they create and design the jerseys, develop the boots, as well as the Official Match Ball, and help Europe’s top footballing nations to compete at their highest level. Alltogether, they work hard every day to fulfill the dream of every European football player and his respective fans – to win the European Championship.

The BU Football team used the tournament as a great opportunity to see and experience what they have been working on throughout the past few years and, most importantly, to find inspiration for the upcoming tournaments. In addition, as a sign of appreciation from their supervisors for all their work and dedication, the team went by bus on a road trip to Poland to watch Spain vs. Ireland at the PGE Arena in Danzig, Poland.

Chili con Carne with tennis ace Andrea Petkovic

Chili con Carne with tennis ace Andrea Petkovic

It’s only my fourth day working for the adidas Group and whom do I get to meet? Andrea Petkovic – Germany’s number 1 tennis player here on the World of Sports in Herzogenaurach.

I’ve just started my PR Traineeship at Internal Communications and already had the opportunity to organize a lunch with Andrea Petkovic and five lucky employees, who all participated in a drawing. The lucky winners all answered our question right and knew that Andrea currently possesses the number 10 world ranking. We invited the five to meet Andrea during her lunch break at our employee restaurant Stripes.
