A year to remember – Reviewing the year 2012

A year to remember – Reviewing the year 2012

In reviewing the year, 2012 was clearly marked by the two major sporting events of the summer, the Olympic Games in London and the UEFA EURO™ in Poland and Ukraine. adidas was front and centre at both events. But there was so much more to report on: the memorable ‘all in’ adidas Champions League final between Chelsea FC and FC Bayern in Munich, the first NEO stores in Germany, record sales, Selena Gomez… This blog post brings back some of the highlights of the last 12 months.

You have followed us closely on the adidas Group blog throughout the year. I would like to thank you for your interest in our Group and hope you enjoyed reading and watching our posts. Please stay tuned! We will be back with more insights into our work as of January 7th, 2013. Until then, the blog team and I wish you Happy Holidays!

Exclusive Video: Herbert Hainer on the adidas Group’s Nine Months 2012 results

This morning we released the adidas Group‘s Nine Months 2012 results. In the first nine months of 2012, adidas Group sales increased 8% on a currency-neutral basis driven by double-digit growth in Retail and Other Businesses. Net income grew 22% to 798 million euro. This marks the seventh consecutive quarter in which we grew the bottom line faster than the top line. Our results so far this year prove that Route 2015 is a powerful and robust strategic business plan that enables us to achieve record sales and earnings in 2012 and 2013. I interviewed our CEO Herbert Hainer exclusively for the adidas Group blog and he shared his views on our results, the current economic climate and how he expects the company to perform in 2013. Please take a look at the video.

adidas Brand Book wins German PR Award

adidas Brand Book wins German PR Award

Over the past few months we have covered the creating progress of our adidas Brand Book here on our blog. In four different posts we talked about how a Brand Book can have an impact on employees’ loyalty, how challenging it was to put adidas’ history in one book, what the creative direction to explain adidas’ identity was and what the creation of the Brand Book was like. We are very proud to announce that our adidas Brand Book was recently awarded the prestigious PR award in the category Corporate Media for the first time. The DPRG (“German Public Relations Association”) and F.A.Z.-Institute rewarded the best companies, institutions, agencies and future talents in 21 categories. Looking back, the reason for writing down the adidas story is described as follows:

Jan Runau voted Spokesperson of the Year 2012

Jan Runau voted Spokesperson of the Year 2012

Today I have pretty good news to share. I was voted ‘Spokesperson of the Year’ by Germany’s business media. This feels especially great as this is the second time for me to receive this award after 2007.

The day I received the news from Markus Wiegand, editor-in-chief of the German trade publication about financial and business communication “Wirtschaftsjournalist”, I shared it of course with my team, my boss and my family. Here is what they said:

My team: I received the award because they do such a fantastic job.

Herbert Hainer, adidas Group CEO: I received the award because he is such a great CEO.

My family: I received the award because they are such a nice family.

And guess what? They are all absolutely right: only together we win!

Thank you to everybody for his or her on-going support. We take this year’s award as an motivation to keep up the good work and will try to go for the triple.
