A sneak peek into the adidas Group’s international employee population

The movement of our international employees, more commonly known as ‘expats’, has already been discussed on our blog by some of our trainees.

The International Mobility Team here at the adidas Group oversees such movement and provides the needed support to move our employees around the world. We are here to support our international employees on various mobility topics, such as international compensation & benefits, relocation support, immigration, cross-cultural training, tax and social security briefings, health & welfare, risk & security, etc.

In Part 1 of this 3-part series, the International Mobility Team will showcase the diversity of our international employee population within the adidas Group.

This is the total number of our international employees globally. Wonder where they are all located?

With international employees in over 40 locations outside their ‘home’ countries, you can find the majority at our global headquarters in Herzogenaurach (Germany), as well as at key offices in Portland, Canton/Boston, Panama, Amsterdam, Shanghai and Hong Kong. If you’ve ever wanted a truly global career, now is the time to apply to the adidas Group!

Can you find your nationality? With over 70 nationalities in our company, we have a truly international employee population, which in turn creates a culturally diverse and inspiring place to work. Even I myself, a Canadian-born Chinese, can find a few of us walking around the World of Sports campus in Herzogenaurach.

To some it may seem like all of our international employees are Gen Yers, but you can see we are outnumbered (for the time being) when you take a look at the generation breakdown based on age. As an employer, the adidas Group embraces and benefits from the differing perspectives of people at different stages of their careers, whilst also catering specifically to the needs of a multi-generation international workforce. An example?

For the younger generation, we actively support and encourage international assignments (depending on performance, of course) as a way to broaden horizons and see the world – whilst at the other end of the spectrum, we specifically aim to help with the very different concerns of older employees, such as families & dependents, schools, benefits and retirement-saving continuity, etc.

There will be more to follow on the support we offer to international employees in the next blog post from the International Mobility Team!

  1. Hi Vicki, nice blog entry! Quick question, when will the application for the 2012 Business Management Program open? The link on the career site is a bit dated, it points to Oct 2011.. Thanks!

  2. Hi Vicki! Thanks for the insight on international careers with adidas. I am looking forward to the next 2 installments! It’s very encouraging to hear that adidas values multiculturalism in its workforce.

Could you please share your advice on the best way to begin an international career at adidas? Is it necessary to get hired in your home country first, or is it possible to be hired as an expat? Or is an internship or some other type of structured program the best avenue?

    Thanks,
    Kristen

  3. my dreams its all about adidas…hope i can be the one of the bigest team at adidas company…hope my dreams come true…

  4. Hi Kristen – thanks for your interest in international careers with adidas Group!

The answer to your question depends on how far you are in your career. If you are a current student, the best way would be via our global internship program. For recent graduates, we have the Functional Trainee Program and the Business Management Program (for MBA grads only). If you have a 3+ years of direct work experience with a relevant company, we definitely do hire from abroad especially in our major locations.
