The excitement and passion of fans from all around the globe and especially from the ones in the host-countries of the UEFA EURO 2012™, Poland and the Ukraine, is huge; the passion for football and for the tournament itself. Seeing all the incredible pictures on TV showcases why so many people are so emotional about football and why there is always a reason to go all in for this sport. Just to give you an example: In Berlin alone, approximately half a million people showed up at the public viewing site right in front of the Brandenburg Gate and more than 30 million Germans watched the game against Denmark – and this wasn’t even the quarter final yet! And the excitement in Poland is huge as well, even if the EURO hype slightly decreased due to Poland’s tournament drop out. I know, because I got the opportunity to be part of an adidas delegation, including Herbert Hainer (CEOThe Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of a company is the highest-ranking corporate officer and in charge of total management of an organisation.) and Markus Baumann (Senior Vice President adidas Global Football), which went to Warsaw.
This trip’s purpose was to explain international media on-site how adidas is already successfully activating its role as Official Partner of UEFA EURO 2012™ and how this event is positively influencing our football sales in 2012. During the event Herbert Hainer said: “adidas can already be sure of defending its title as the most successful football brand in Europe and the world. adidas is leading the way at the UEFA EURO 2012™ in every respect – in terms of product sales, brand visibility and innovative strength”. adidas is now expecting record sales of well above 1.6 billion Euro in the football category alone.
