When we, the adidas Group’s Future Talent Programs Team, present the adidas Group at campus recruiting events, the booth is always surrounded by lots of interested students who want to know more about working for the adidas Group. Besides questions concerning our Future Talent Programs, the recruiting team is often asked about the truth of rumours they have heard.
Let’s do away with these rumours! …or maybe not?
1. You have to be a top athlete or pass a sports test to work for the adidas Group …
Neither do you have to be a top athlete nor do you need to pass a sports test in order to work for the adidas Group. Nevertheless, since our business is all about sports, fashion and lifestyle, you should share our passion for sports and take an interest in all our brands, events, campaigns and sponsored athletes.
At our headquarters in Herzogenaurach, the so-called ‘World of Sports’, we not only offer sports facilities like a gym, a sports ground, beach volley and tennis courts and a football pitch, but also organize off-site events such as ski trips and golf courses.
All these opportunities make the adidas Group a great place to work and give you the chance to live your passion for sports at your workplace.
2. Good connections are needed to join the adidas Group as an employee …
Knowing people within the company is always beneficial, no matter which company we are talking about. However, at the adidas Group, you have to step through the door by yourself (official application process) and show us what you are made of!
All available job positions are posted online on our career website. Everyone who is interested in a job position has to upload all required application documents to the online system and has to go through the official recruiting process.
Equality of opportunity is very important to us. For the recruitment team it is important that you fulfil the minimum job requirements and that you are enthusiastic about the job opening – not the people you know who work at the adidas Group, no matter which job level.
The all true motto: FAIR PLAY!
3. Without having done an internship at the adidas Group, there is no chance of joining one of our Future Talent Programs / Direct Entry …
An internship at the adidas Group offers the opportunity to get insights into the Group’s business life and its corporate culture. This knowledge can be helpful when you apply for a job within our company. However, a previous internship is not required, neither for one of our Future Talent Programs nor for Direct Entry.
At assessment centers for the Functional Trainee Program, we often have the situation that former interns compete against candidates who have never been with the company before. Since we assess performance and team-working abilities during the assessment days, frequently ‘external’ candidates win the race and secure one of the sought-after places within the program. So we have several program participants who have never been with the company before.
4. Without international experience – you have no chance …
People working at the adidas Group headquarters in Herzogenaurach come from more than 60 nations and that’s why our corporate language is English. Therefore, a minimum level of English proficiency is required. That said international experience is beneficial, but definitively not required for every job at the adidas Group.
However, since the Functional Trainee Program and the Business Management Program are very international and involve lots of travelling, a minimum of six months’ international experience is required for both of them.
5. You have to be fluent in German to succeed at the adidas Group.…
If you apply for a job at the adidas Group within Market Central (Germany/Austria/Switzerland), you should have a very good command of German. That’s it! For all other positions, it’s totally sufficient to be fluent in English as our corporate language is English all around the world.
6. I can’t apply for more than one position at a time …
You can apply for more than one position at a time, but we recommend that you keep your applications focused on one area. Think about the positions that you are applying for, and be sure that you not only have the relevant skills and experience required for those positions, but also and most importantly the interest and passion.
7. All employees have to rotate their positions every two years to be successful within the company …
This rule does not exist! We do not have a maximum turnaround time for our positions. It’s totally up to our employees, their performance, the business and their interests, how long they stay in the same position.
8. You’re just allowed to wear adidas or Reebok clothes at work …
There’s no specific dress code at the adidas Group. During work time, our employees can wear whatever they feel good in, apart from competitor products. Most of our employees are dressed very casually, wearing different products from our brands. Whether tracksuits, jeans, shorts, sports shoes, high heels or suits – wear whatever you like and whatever suits you!
9. You have to do sports instead of going for lunch …
It’s up to every employee! As already mentioned, there are several opportunities for doing sports during lunchtime and a lot of employees take this opportunity. As we have flexible work time, you can do sports and go to lunch afterwards. That’s the perfect combination – before going back to work after an exciting and powerful break!
10. The employee restaurant only offers fat-free food
Our employee restaurant caters for all tastes! However, the most popular dish is served at the end of each week. Friday’s Curry Wurst! I guess there is no additional explanation required …
