It’s Tango-time for UEFA Federations

One important logistical task following the launch of the adidas Tango 12 is the delivery of training balls to the participating federations. This task was performed today. In the past such issues as balls going missing, not enough training time with the balls and obviously some federations wanting to purchase additional training balls were raised; for UEFA EURO 2012™ it is no different.

adidas strives to improve on all levels and our service level commitment speaks for itself. For UEFA EURO 2012™ each of the competing Federations will receive 30 training balls immediately following the draw. UEFA and the Federations also agreed that each of the training balls will be personalized with a UEFA EURO 2012™ inspired interpretation of the respective National Team’s flag. Once printed and packaged the shipments are closely monitored using courier tracking systems to ensure they don’t disappear and are delivered to the right location agreed with each federation in advance.

This gives each of the federations 6 months to practice with the balls and for use in any of the warm-up fixtures prior to the kick-off in Warsaw in June 2012. Of course it makes sense for every federation to take as much time using the balls ahead of the tournament as it is clear that the look and feel of the ball – despite being based on the old favorite Tango design – might take time to get used to, as with all balls, for all tournaments.

Upon arrival at their training centers in Poland or the Ukraine in May of 2012, each Federation will receive a further shipment of 20 personalized training balls to cover any additional needs during the tournament, and of course, the balls can be purchased anywhere if more are required.

With the balls now officially on their way to the federations time is ticking and we’re all now looking forward with great enthusiasm to when the tournament starts on June 8th in Warsaw.

  1. Good day Mr. McCammon,

Great post, amazing to know how the distribution process is and read the strategies the brand takes to get the goals of time and distribution, but I got a question related with Distribution Mr. McCammon. I read months ago that Caspe was the main distribution center of Adidas so I was thinking “this distribution of the Tango balls will do through this center?, receiving the merchandise from overseas with a freight forwarder to this center and then send to Federations? or what or where is the main distribution center of Adidas? Sorry Mr. McCammon, maybe this kind of information is more confidential.

Thanks for your time and this good post Mr. McCammon.

    Regards.

    Mike

    Hi Mike,

Thank you very much for your question. The general distribution of the Tango 12 to our retailers is handled indeed by our various distribution centers. However, the balls for the federations were personalized with the country flags in Scheinfeld (Germany). Therefore they were shipped directly from there. Best,
    Frank

  3. Good day Frank and Mr. McCammon,

I saw days ago the presentation of Comoequa, people say it is similar to Tango 12 or this kind of ball has some different? (besides colours)

Thanks and have excellent new year.

    Mike

    Hi Mike,

It is right that the Comoequa and the Tango 12 share the same technology. While the Tango 12 is inspired by tradition, made for today’s game, the Comoequa takes its inspiration from the Como River which runs through both host nations of the 2012 African Cup of Nations – Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, and the Equator which runs throughout Africa and unites both host nations.

    Best, Frank

P.s.: happy new year to you and everyone else, too. Please accept also my appolgies for the late reply
