My name is Jan Runau and I am the adidas Group’s Chief Corporate Communication Officer. I’d like to ask you something: What do you think of the following sentence? “The adidas Group strives to be the global leader in the sporting goods industry with sports brands built on a passion for sports and a sporting lifestyle”.

This sentence is our mission statement and it describes quite well what we are aiming for on a daily basis. But does it also express all the passion we put into our work? Does it make you understand easily why we love what we do and how we do it? Probably it does just as well as one single sentence is able to. But besides the adidas Group’s brands and its products its people give the company its heart and soul. Therefore this blog’s objective is to give you a personal and holistic picture of the company behind the brands.

Employees provide personal insights into our business in sports

The blog is authored and maintained first and foremost by adidas Group employees (to meet them please click here). We want to provide authentic insights and additional background about our company and the manifold business we drive in an industry which is one of the most inspiring and emotional of its kind. We want to conduct a genuine dialogue with everyone who is interested in what we are doing and want to explain how and why we are doing it.

Beyond the Group’s usual communication materials provided to its stakeholders such as reports, releases and statements, a lot more is happening in our fascinating company each and every day – topics which are worth to share and which will hopefully  help you to understand the adidas Group even better – no matter if you are an applicant, a journalist, an investor, a sports fan who is interested in off-court issues like sports business or an adidas Group employee who seizes every chance to look beyond the nearby.

The postings on this site are the author’s own thoughts and do not necessarily represent the position, strategy or opinions of the adidas Group and its brands. As this is a corporate blog we also use this dialogue forum from time to time to pick up current industry issues and to share our corporate perspective. We clearly indicate this whenever we do so.

Thoughts on a vivid conversation

Please allow me to also share some more thoughts on how we want to secure the goal of a vivid conversation – a goal which we all have in common.

Traditionally, the adidas Group advocates an open communication culture. We encourage you to be an active part of the conversation in this blog. Let us know what you think, what topics should be covered and how you like our blog and its posts. Give us your feedback. Your comments will go live the minute you verified them. However, we ask you to stick to our blog guidelines to ensure a constructive, purposeful and fair blog culture. In order to support this goal my team, the Corporate Communication Team, will moderate the conversation on this blog where is necessary. It will do so as transparently as possible.     This sentence is our mission statement and it describes quite well what we are aiming for on a daily basis.

    I would be more convinced if the mission statement would read roughly as follows:

    “The adidas Group passionately strives to provide athletes and customer worldwide with the best equipment for sports and a sporting lifestyle”.

    @Sascha Stoltenow: you are absolutely right – athletes are indeed at the heart of everything we do. And yes, we want to provide them with the best possible equipment (check this link: http://www.adidas-group.com/en/ourgroup/brands/adidas.aspx). I like your version of the statement, too. Personally, I am a little bit missing the passion, though.

  3. Thanks Frank for taking the time. Basically “my” version is just a change in perspective, putting the focus on the customer, hence “passionately strive”, which for me includes the passion for goods and lifestyle. Either way the mission is clear, and I’ll take you for it ;-)
